From Málaga Airport to the Coast, the City or the Alhambra
Plenty of people landing at Málaga are not staying in the city. They are heading west to Marbella, east to Nerja or inland to Granada, and a minibus with a driver lets a small group go straight there with the cases in the back.
Meeting your driver
Aena does not publish a pick-up area for group vehicles at Málaga, so the meeting point is fixed between you and the operator when you book. If a tour company is looking after part of your holiday, its desk is down among the luggage belts on floor 0; public buses leave from the interchange just outside Arrivals. Go by the terminal printed on your booking; Aena names T3 as the main building.
Keep one phone switched on after landing so the driver can reach whoever leads the group, and tell us about anyone who needs help with steps or a wheelchair.

Where people go next
The Plaza de la Constitución, in the heart of Málaga, is only about 13 km away, roughly 20 minutes. Down the coast motorway, Marbella's orange-tree square, the Plaza de los Naranjos, lies some 51 km off, close to 50 minutes. If you are boarding a ship, the cruise terminals in the port are about 14 km, some 25 minutes.
Granada is a longer haul: about 137 km from the airport, around 2 h 15 min. If the Alhambra is on your list, remember that every ticket carries a fixed entry time for the Nasrid Palaces, so book the visit for the following day rather than racing there after a flight.
The terminals in brief
- Terminal T3 (the main terminal building, where check-in, the baggage reclaim hall and the Arrivals level are)
Worth knowing at Málaga-Costa del Sol Airport
- The cruise terminals in the Port of Málaga are about 14 km by road, about 25 min by coach in light traffic.
- Marbella (Plaza de los Naranjos) is about 51 km by road, about 50 min by coach in light traffic.
- Long-distance buses link the airport with Marbella, Estepona, Algeciras, Nerja, Granada, Sevilla and Córdoba.
- The city's Express airport bus stops on Arrivals level 0, in front of the transport interchange.
- Cercanías line C1 (Málaga Centro Alameda - Fuengirola) has a station at the airport: about 12 minutes to the centre of Málaga, 8 minutes to Málaga María Zambrano (the high-speed rail station), 18 minutes to Benalmádena and 34 minutes to Fuengirola.
Low-emission rules in central Málaga
Central Málaga has a low-emission zone read by cameras. From December 2026, label B vehicles from outside the city are also kept out. The city's page does not mention private-hire coaches, so the operator checks the rule for the vehicle you book.
What travellers ask us
Is the train quicker into Málaga?
Cercanías line C1 stops at the airport and reaches the city centre in about 12 minutes. It is a good choice with hand luggage. With suitcases and children, a vehicle that stops at the hotel is easier.
Can we stop at Mijas or Nerja on the way?
Yes, a stop can be built into the transfer. Mijas is about 32 km from Málaga and Nerja about 58 km. Allow time for lunch and say so when you ask for a quote, as it lengthens the driver's day.
We are eight people. Car or minibus?
Eight passengers fit in a large car with driver, but not with eight big suitcases. A minibus seats 9 to 16, so it leaves spare room for golf bags and beach gear.
