An Adapted Minibus So Everyone Rides Together

An adapted minibus means the friend in a wheelchair, the grandparent with a walker and the rest of the party all share one vehicle. Access is by lift or ramp, and wheelchairs are fixed at securing points for the journey.

Layout changes with every booking

There is no single seat count. Each wheelchair position replaces seats, and it takes luggage room too, so the layout is set around your group. Tell us how many wheelchair users are coming, the type of chair, and how much luggage travels with you.

It is driven on a D1 licence, for up to 16 passengers besides the driver, like any minibus of that size.

On board

  • The EU rights to assistance for disabled passengers cover scheduled long-distance bus and coach services of 250 km or more; on a private hire, accessibility is arranged with each booking
  • From 1 October 2026, city councils may set a special regime for setting down and picking up children, older people and people with reduced mobility or a disability, including access to restricted areas and more time to complete the stop (RGC art. 156.1.c)
  • In school and child transport, seats for people with reduced mobility are reserved near the service doors where needed, and vehicles taking pupils with severe motor disabilities to special-education schools need aids for getting on and off (Real Decreto 443/2001, art. 4)
  • Category D1 licence for up to 16 passengers besides the driver
  • Lift or ramp access with wheelchair securing points

Rules that help

For school runs, Spanish rules keep places for pupils with reduced mobility close to the doors when needed, and a bus going to a special-education school with pupils who have severe motor disabilities must have aids to help them on and off.

Since October 2026, town halls have had the power to ease drop-offs for children, older people and passengers with a disability: entry to restricted streets, say, or extra minutes at the stop. Whether a town has adopted this varies, and the operator asks before the trip.

Private hire, private arrangements

The EU right to assistance applies to scheduled long-distance coach services of 250 km or more, not to a private group hire. On a booking like yours, the vehicle and any boarding help are agreed in advance, which also means they are set up around your own timetable.

Typical trips include outings for care homes and day centres, accessible airport and cruise transfers, and family days where some walk and some ride.

What travellers ask us

How many wheelchairs can one minibus take?

It varies with the layout. Give us the number of wheelchair users and other passengers, and the quote names a configuration that fits.

Can a carer sit next to the wheelchair user?

Usually, yes. Mention it in the request so the seat beside the wheelchair position is kept free.

Is access by lift or by ramp?

Either, depending on the vehicle. If the chair is heavy or powered, say so, and the operator confirms that the access suits it.
