Girona, Figueres and the Costa Brava with a Driver

Girona's old town is steep, walkable and full of corners for a small group to discover together. The Dalí museum, the coves of the Costa Brava and the stone villages of Pals and Peratallada are all within about an hour, which makes it a very easy base.

Two places to step off

Group vehicles may set down at only two points. One is the Passeig de la Devesa, between the Pont de Pedret roundabout and the Avinguda de França bridge, from 09:00 to 21:00 for up to 15 minutes, without parking. The other is the bus station (Passeig d'Olot), where bays 25 to 27 may be used from 05:45 to 23:00 for up to 10 minutes. The riverside and the cathedral are off limits, so expect a pleasant walk up into the Barri Vell.

While you explore, the driver parks around the Pavelló de Fontajau, in the blue-lined bays, or at the Pavelló de Palau 2, where there is no time limit. The tourism office also publishes rules for tourist groups inside the old town.

The zone, and the flower festival

Since 15 September 2025 a low-emission zone has covered the area from the Parc de la Devesa to the Carrer d'Emili Grahit, the Barri Vell included, on working weekdays from 07:00 to 20:00. Any DGT label enters freely. Unlabelled vehicles from outside Girona may come in on up to 24 days a year, and buses and coaches in passenger transport, vehicles carrying people with reduced mobility and compliant foreign vehicles can apply for an authorisation. A review is due before 2028, so the operator checks first.

Every May the Temps de Flors fills the old town with flowers and crowds, and the city runs a special parking plan. Book early for those weeks.

Dalí, coves and stone villages

Figueres and its Teatre-Museu Dalí are about 50 minutes north, Gala's castle at Púbol about 40, and Cadaqués about 1 h 30 min, which together make a fine Dalí day. Tossa de Mar and Lloret de Mar are each about 50 minutes, Calella de Palafrugell about 1 h 10 min. Besalú, Banyoles, Empúries and the Garrotxa volcanoes near Olot all fit within about an hour. Barcelona is about 1 h 40 min, and Montserrat about 2 h 10 min.

What travellers ask us

At Girona airport, where do we meet the driver?

Aena publishes no group pick-up point, so the operator agrees one with you. The multi-storey car park has a 2.1 m clearance, too low for coaches or tall minibuses. The old town is about 14 km away, roughly 30 minutes; Barcelona Terminal 1 is about 118 km.

Can the minibus drop us at the cathedral?

No. The stops are the Passeig de la Devesa and the bus station only, and from either the cathedral's great stairway is a short walk.

We are staying in Lloret de Mar. Is Girona an easy day?

Yes. Lloret is about 39 km from the old town, around 50 minutes, so a morning in the Barri Vell and an afternoon in Besalú or Figueres fit comfortably.
