Coach Rental Across Spain

Travelling Together When Someone Uses a Wheelchair

Nobody should have to follow the group in a separate taxi. With a lift or ramp on board, an adapted minibus lets a wheelchair user ride with family and friends. Each wheelchair position replaces seats, so the layout is agreed for every trip.

Arranged with each booking

The EU's assistance rules are written for scheduled coach routes of 250 km or more, booked with 36 hours' notice. A private hire falls outside them, so everything, from the vehicle and its securing points to help getting on board, is agreed when you book.

Tell us how many wheelchairs are travelling, whether they are manual or powered, and whether anyone prefers to transfer to a seat. Wheelchair spaces also eat into luggage room, so for an airport run with suitcases a second, smaller vehicle can help.

New rules for setting down in town

A change to Spain's traffic rules from 1 October 2026 lets each town hall make setting down easier for passengers with reduced mobility or a disability, for instance by allowing access to restricted streets or more time at the kerb. Not every town will use it in the same way, so the operator asks what applies where you are going.

Rules worth knowing first

  • Those rights cover scheduled services, so on a private hire accessible vehicles and assistance are arranged with each booking
  • At the Feria de Abril, parking places for people with reduced mobility are set up on the Avenida Maestranza Aérea and the Calle Virgen de la Cinta for holders of a disabled parking card, and the fairground has accessible routes

Places that have something in place

If you are coming off a ship in Málaga, the terminal operator says the building is fully accessible and can help with a wheelchair if you ask. Sevilla's April Fair sets aside parking for anyone with a disabled parking card on the Calle Virgen de la Cinta and the Avenida Maestranza Aérea, with accessible routes inside the fairground. During the Fallas in 2026, associations were able to book a reserved spot at the daily mascletà for up to 20 people, five or more days ahead.

Barcelona keeps special bays for adapted coaches near the Sagrada Família, La Pedrera, Ciutadella and Trafalgar. At the Alhambra in Granada, car park P-1 is kept for adapted vehicles.

What travellers ask us

Can a passenger stay in their wheelchair?

Yes, in a wheelchair position with securing points. Share the chair's type and size so the operator can confirm the fit.

Does the driver need a special licence?

An adapted minibus for up to 16 passengers is driven on a D1 licence, the same as other minibuses of that size.

Is there provision for school groups?

Yes. Under the school transport decree, seats for pupils with reduced mobility are kept near the doors where needed, and vehicles serving special-education schools have aids for getting on and off.
