Girona-Costa Brava Airport: Into the Old Town or Down to the Sea

The airport's home is Vilobí d'Onyar, some 10 km out of Girona, with the beaches and coves of the Costa Brava within easy reach. For a family or a group of friends with a week of luggage, a minibus is the comfortable way to start.

Meeting at the terminal

There is one terminal, and Aena names no meeting place for groups at Girona, so the place you meet and where the vehicle pulls in are agreed with the operator when you book. The multi-storey car park opposite has a clearance of only 2.1 m, too low for a high-roof minibus.

Girona's old town

The Barri Vell is about 14 km by road, roughly 30 minutes. The town lets group vehicles drop passengers in just two places, along the Passeig de la Devesa or inside the bus station, and the old quarter is steep and largely pedestrian, so your group walks up from the river. A low-emission zone covers the centre between 07:00 and 20:00, Monday to Friday on working days, and any vehicle carrying a DGT label goes in freely.

Each May the Temps de Flors fills the old town with flowers and visitors, and a special parking plan applies. Expect a longer walk on those days.

Worth knowing at Girona-Costa Brava Airport

  • Lloret de Mar, on the Costa Brava, is about 29 km by road, about 35 min by coach in light traffic.
  • Figueres (the Teatre-Museu Dalí) is about 52 km by road, about 50 min by coach in light traffic.
  • There is no railway station at the airport.
  • A bus line links the airport with Barcelona (Estació del Nord), timed to flight arrivals; other lines serve Costa Brava towns, Vic, Manresa and Lleida, Barcelona-El Prat Airport, and Perpignan in France.
  • The airport is in Vilobí d'Onyar, about 10 km from Girona and about 85 km from Barcelona.

The coast and Dalí

From the airport, Lloret de Mar is about 29 km, roughly 35 minutes, and the Teatre-Museu Dalí in Figueres about 52 km, close to 50 minutes. Tossa de Mar, Pals and Calella de Palafrugell are each about an hour or a little more from Girona, which makes the region ideal for touring days in a small vehicle.

What travellers ask us

How far is Barcelona from here?

About 85 km. A bus line to Barcelona's Estació del Nord is timed to arrivals, but with several bags a minibus straight to your hotel saves the change.

Can we get around by train from here?

Not directly, as the terminal has no station. Buses serve Girona, Costa Brava towns, Vic, Manresa and Lleida, and even Perpignan in France.

Can we be collected here and dropped at Barcelona airport at the end?

Yes, that works well with one-way trips. Give both flight times, and the operator sets the timing for the return.

Is Cadaqués too far for a day out?

From Girona it is about 74 km, roughly an hour and a half each way, so it fills a day. Figueres lies on the way, about 43 km from Girona, and the two pair well. Púbol, with the Gala Dalí castle, is closer still.
