Benidorm, Beyond the Beaches

Most people come to Benidorm for its two long beaches, and many leave without seeing the mountain villages half an hour inland. A minibus with a driver changes that, and it makes the airport run and the nights out simpler as well.

To and from Alicante-Elche

The airport is about 58 km from the old town, about an hour by the AP-7 in light traffic, and Valencia airport about 151 km. Aena publishes no group pick-up point at Alicante-Elche, so the operator agrees with you where to meet. At the Benidorm end, the hotels spread along Levante, Poniente, Rincón de Loix and the old town, and out by the AP-7 and the theme parks. With no official set-down list for those areas, the operator settles each stop with the hotel and the city.

The camera-checked zone

Benidorm's low-emission zone covers 74 hectares in three parts: the Centro, Levante with the old town, and the Paseo de Poniente beachfront. It has been operational since 1 January 2025, and cameras at 22 points check who enters. Residents, urban public transport, vehicles with a special authorisation and those with the C, ECO or zero-emission label go in freely; vehicles with the B label or none are restricted.

In practice, a minibus registered from 2014 carries the C label and enters, while an older one needs an authorisation through the city's ZBE platform. The operator checks this before your stay.

Villages, waterfalls and theme parks

Altea, with its white old town on a hill above the sea, and Villajoyosa are each about 25 minutes away. The Fonts de l'Algar waterfalls at Callosa d'en Sarrià take about half an hour, Guadalest about 35 minutes and Calp about 40. Xàbia and Dénia are both about an hour, the palm groves of Elche about 1 h 10 min, and Valencia a little over two hours.

Terra Mítica, Terra Natura, Aqualandia and Mundomar sit on the edge of town, close enough for a drop in the morning and a collection at closing. Boats from the port go across to the Isla de Benidorm, and the Balcón del Mediterráneo viewpoint sits on the headland in the old town.

What travellers ask us

We are a hen party of 14. Is one minibus enough?

Yes. A minibus takes 9 to 16 passengers besides the driver, so all fourteen of you fit. On the airport run, mention the suitcases, because luggage space shrinks when every seat is full.

Can the driver wait for us at a theme park?

The driver drops you and comes back at an agreed time rather than waiting all day. The parks are on the edge of town, so the return trip is short.

Is there an arena for concerts or contests?

The Palau d'Esports l'Illa de Benidorm is the town's indoor sports and events arena, and it hosts the Benidorm Fest song contest. A minibus suits a group heading there for the evening.
