Coach Rental Across Spain

Day Trips from the City at Your Own Pace

A minibus with a driver turns a city stay into a string of day trips: a monastery in the morning, a hill village for lunch, back in town for dinner. A smaller vehicle also reaches places where a full coach is not welcome.

Trips that work well

From Madrid, El Escorial is about 48 km and Toledo about 74 km, while Segovia, about 95 km away, pairs nicely with the royal palace and gardens of La Granja. From Barcelona, Montserrat is about 60 km from the centre, and the monastery can be reached by road, by rack railway from Monistrol or by cable car. From Marbella, Ronda is about 58 km up a winding mountain road; allow about 1 h 30 min.

On Mallorca, Valldemossa and Sóller are under an hour from Palma through the Serra de Tramuntana. The road down to Sa Calobra is a run of hairpin bends, about 1 h 40 min each way, so ask the operator which vehicle size suits it.

Where a small vehicle helps

In Granada the Albaicín and the Realejo are restricted areas with streets too narrow for coaches. Groups walk up, ride the city minibuses, or use a small vehicle where the operator holds the access permit. For the Alhambra, coaches use the P-4 park, and each ticket carries a fixed time for the Nasrid Palaces, so the drive is planned backwards from that slot.

Every larger Spanish town must have a low-emission zone, and each writes its own rules using the DGT labels. A Euro VI diesel vehicle carries the green C label and a Euro IV or V one the yellow B, and the operator checks the current rule for each stop before you set off.

Rules worth knowing first

  • ZBE access rules use the DGT environmental classification of vehicles (0 emisiones, ECO, C, B and the unlabelled A class) (Real Decreto 1052/2022, art. 5.2); vehicles without Spanish plates may be classified on the same criteria
  • Drivers of passenger vehicles with more than nine seats may not exceed 0.3 g/l of alcohol in the blood

What travellers ask us

Can we change the plan on the day?

Small changes, yes, if the driver's hours and the local rules allow. A new stop inside a restricted old town may not be possible, so ask before promising it to the group.

Is the driver also a guide?

No. We arrange the vehicle and driver. At the Alhambra, tourist groups must be led by a licensed guide, booked separately.

How long can a day out run?

Driving is capped at nine hours, or ten twice a week, and a 45-minute stop is due after four and a half hours. Most trips sit well inside that; the Alhambra from Málaga's port, about 131 km each way, needs careful timing.
