Málaga Port Calls for Small Groups
Málaga is one of the friendliest cruise ports for a small group: the quays almost touch the old town, and the Costa del Sol and its white villages lie within easy reach. A minibus with a driver lets you choose between them.
Levante or the Palmeral
Larger ships use Terminals A and B on the Muelle de Levante, where four berths take vessels of every size. Smaller ships come alongside at the Palmeral, the terminal named for the neighbouring Palmeral de las Sorpresas, a short stroll from the centre. Over 1,300 m of quay is kept for cruise ships alone.
Public set-down and pick-up areas exist outside both Levante terminals and close to the Palmeral. They are open spaces, not run by the terminal operator, so your driver agrees the exact spot with you.

Into the city
Reaching the Plaza de la Constitución takes about 15 minutes by road from Levante, a run of roughly 4 km. The historic centre is a protected zone with camera-controlled access, so vehicles set down at its edge; the operator confirms the spot.
Málaga's low-emission zone tightens in December 2026, when label B vehicles from outside the city may no longer enter. The city's page does not mention hired coaches, so the operator checks the rule for your vehicle.
Cruise terminals and quays
- The port has more than 1,300 m of quay used only by cruise ships
- Palmeral terminal, by the Palmeral de las Sorpresas in the port area next to the city centre, with one berth for smaller ships
- Muelle de Levante: two cruise terminals (Terminal A and Terminal B) and four berths that take ships of every size; address Estación Marítima de Levante s/n, 29001 Málaga
Villages, coast and the Alhambra
From the city centre, Mijas is about 40 minutes away and Nerja about an hour, with Frigiliana just beyond. Granada is a much longer day: about 131 km from the Levante quay, some 2 h 10 min each way, and Nasrid Palaces entry is at a fixed time that must be kept.
The terminal operator describes its facilities as fully accessible, with wheelchair assistance on request.
What travellers ask us
How long is the drive to the airport?
About 14 km, around 25 minutes when traffic is light. Aena publishes no coach pick-up point at Málaga airport, so the operator sets the meeting place when you book.
Do the cruise shuttles go into town?
That is up to each cruise line, and they operate only while the ship is in port. With your own minibus the timing is yours.
Could we go by train instead?
Cercanías line C1 runs from Málaga Centro Alameda, about eight minutes on foot from the port, reaching the airport in about 12 minutes. It suits light luggage far better than full suitcases.
