Mallorca from the Quayside, at Your Own Pace
Palma's cruise quays sit right in the city, in front of the old town and the cathedral. A minibus is a good fit for a family or a group of friends here: big enough for everyone and their bags, small enough for the island's mountain villages.
Two berths, so check which one is yours
Ships berth either on the Dique del Oeste, the long western breakwater, or at the Muelle de Poniente, whose maritime stations also serve passenger ferries. They are different places, and which one you get depends on the ship, so tell the operator what your documents say.
The Dique del Oeste is about 5 km from the Plaça de Cort beside the cathedral, around a quarter of an hour by road.

Busy mornings on the seafront
All port traffic heads out by the seafront road, the Avenida Gabriel Roca, and the port authority notes that big calls move many people in a very short time. A small vehicle with its own driver avoids the scramble. Palma also limits cruise calls.
Both berth areas are due to get a sea link, the Bus Nàutic, running to the Muelle de La Lonja close to the old town: the two cruise-passenger lines (2 and 3) start on 1 November 2026, while line 1 waits until 15 January 2027.
Cruise terminals and quays
- The Port of Palma lies in the middle of the city, in front of the old town, and is divided into the commercial quays, the Muelles de Poniente, the marinas and the Dique del Oeste
- Maritime stations on the Muelle de Poniente (Moll de Ponent), which also serve passenger ferries
- Maritime stations (estaciones marítimas) on the Dique del Oeste (Dic de l'Oest), the west breakwater of the Port of Palma
Into the hills and villages
Measured from the centre, Valldemossa is about 35 minutes away and Sóller about 40, with Port de Sóller a little further. The road down to Sa Calobra, full of tight hairpins, takes around 1 h 40 min, and a smaller vehicle copes with it more comfortably.
Inside Palma's ring of avenues lies a low-emission zone, closed to label B vehicles from 2027. Whether its rule on buses covers private hire is unconfirmed, and no official list of coach stops exists, so the operator confirms where you get on and off.
What travellers ask us
How far is the airport from the ship?
Roughly 25 minutes in light traffic, a distance of about 14 km if your ship is on the Dique del Oeste. At the terminal, coaches stop in the outside Arrivals area, which Aena has reorganised by type of transport.
Will the vehicle come from the mainland?
No. Mallorca is an island, so vehicles and drivers for transfers and tours are based there.
Is Sóller possible in one port call?
Usually, yes. Allow about 40 minutes each way from the centre and keep an eye on the all-aboard time, especially if you add Port de Sóller.
